I know I kinda left you guys hanging last year, so I’m bringing this back with a promise to update it more often than I have in the past.
When we last left off, I was adjusting to life in the city and still temping to make ends meet while I looked for a more permanent position. What a difference a few months make. I’m now gainfully* employed at a major publishing house and have since had a birthday (I’m the big 2-5 now), and I’m on to the next biggest (and probably most difficult) stage of any new New Yorker: Apartment hunting!
In most other cities, this is usually a fun experience. Here, not so much. Not only is rent ridiculously (exorbitantly, astronomically, outrageously, excessively) high, but finding a quality apartment is damn near impossible! My new roommate (the former one is in the process of moving to Hawaii**) and I have seen our share of subpar ones and have yet to actually agree one that we both like.
What kills me about here is that there is really no in-between. It’s like being set up on a blind date. You either get this or this, but the entry fee is the same.
Anywho, I have a few more places to see. Until next time.
D
*whatever that really means in this city.
**I know. WTF?!
