This is my shit!

So, Ugly Betty has moved filming to New York. Not really a big thing until I realized they would be filming in my building. It’s kinda cool to actually see them filming a show that I’m familiar with. Even cooler (depends on your perspective, though), I accidentally walked into a scene while America Ferera (the titular Betty) and Eric Mabius (her boss Daniel) were acting.  I feel so special! Lol.

Solange’s album has really impressed me. I, like a lot of folks, was ready to write her off as just another celebrity sibling vying for fame, but the album is really good. Yes, she is mining the retro trend of the moment, but she does it convincingly and with more feeling than her older sister often offers. Here’s a little taste, my favorite song from the album, T.O.N.Y.:

Is it really that cool to sample Michael Jackson now? In the past year I’ve heard at least 5 songs that have sampled, interpolated or straight up jacked Michael. For instance, Ryan Leslie’s “Addiction,” which heavily borrows MJJ’s opening verse from “I Can’t Help It” as it’s bridge. Not convincing enough? Then check out Ashanti borrowing the phrasing of “The Girl Is Mine” for her latest “Good Good .” And let’s not get into that useless “Wanna Be Starting Something” sample by a certain non-singing Carribean chick (I won’t bother to link you to her).

What do you guys think?

On this day twenty-six years ago at 4:57 pm (CST), I was born (I was joined by my twin sister fifteen minutes later).

A lifetime has transpired in the time since.

Thanks to all those that read the blog (family, friends and those I do not yet know). And thanks to all those who have made this journey all the more worth taking.
