Monthly Archives: November 2008

  1. I’m soon approaching my second anniversary of living in this big, fabulous mess of a city. I can barely believe I’ve actually survived just one.
  2. I have a cold. Ugh.
  3. I love the song “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. In fact, it’s one of my favorite songs ever (I even have a recording of myself singing a jazzy version of it that will never see the light of day). While the original is great, I have to say Maroon 5 has a version *almost* as good:
  4. Being sick sucks. My head hurts, my throat hurts and my nose is stuffy….and I want my mommy. :(
  5. For some odd reason, I wish I could be in Japan at the moment.
  6. It feels like the ghosts of Sammy Davis, Jr. and the Nicholas Brothers are tap-dancing on my forehead.
  7. Why the hell am I hearing Christmas songs already. I mean, damn, can’t you people wait until after Thanksgiving for goodness sake!
  8. This one was going to be profound, but I think the cold medicine might be kicking in…Good night folks.

The 44th President of the United States

The 44th President of the United States

There are a lot of clichéd things that can be said about the times that we are in, but you know what, they all really do reflect what this moment truly means.

Last night, I witnessed something that I thought I would never see in my lifetime. The United States elected it’s first African-American president. The fact that I just typed those words and it wasn’t a joke evokes a lot of emotion for me.

Surprisingly enough, The View co-host Sherri Shepherd (trust me, this is one of the last times she’ll be mentioned here), tearfully and thoughtfully summed up the reason for my happiness.

No limitations. I can truly say to my child (if that should ever happen), “You can be whatever you want, even President.” No lies, no euphemisms, no false senses of hope. That’s what Barack Obama’s campaign and presidency means to me. And that, my friends, is true Change.
