Monthly Archives: January 2009

As anyone who knows me knows, I’m a really big Janet fan. Thanks to a post on the ant farm (also known as OKP) I was reminded of this video.

I can’t believe it’s been 15+ years since this album came out (it was the first CD I ever owned).  My how time flies.

Enjoy!

Today is my 2nd anniversary of living in this big, lovely, confusing city that I like to call home. It’s hard to believe it’s really been 2 years.

I think what’s most interesting about the whole thing is that, for the first time since I’ve been here, I’m actually without my core crew (I like to call us the Roomies, but Tab has dubbed us the Denton Texas Crew or DTC).

For those of you who’ve been following the happenings, I first moved here January 4, 2007 with my close friend Tab. I had previously been trying to move here for the better part of four years, but that was complicated by a flaky friend and a small case of Grand Theft Auto (don’t ask). Finally, in March of ‘06, I said “Fuck it” and started putting back the cash in order to make the move. The original move date was my birthday, but due to some other complications, I pushed it back to January.

The new year came, and I celebrated with friends and fam and then finished up the week-long packing and tied up all my loose ends in Dallas. And then I did it. I got on the plane and flew to New York (well, to Chicago with a two-hour layover and then New York). I still don’t know where the idea to do so came from, but I must say that it was probably the best decision that I’ve made so far in this lifetime.

It was so great to finally move. Even after meeting Du, being locked outside President’s Day weekend during one of the coldest Februaries I’ve ever experienced, the endless temping, busting my ass repeated in the snow and the last minute midnight move via subway in March from Morningside Heights to Crown Heights. Shortly thereafter there was a mass influx of former Dentonites sleeping on my couch/floor/bed/balcony/bathroom floor: (crazy) Jessica, Bridgette and Chrisha, Chrys and (not-so crazy) Jessica.

One by one, though, they all vacated the city to pursue their own goals and dreams (well except for Bridgette and Chrisha, but they’re different) and now it’s just me.

How fitting, though, that I start this new year and mark my 2nd anniversary completely on my own and with a new outlook on the things to come.
